Antique Amazigh Silver Ring
From the Ida ou Nadif people of Morocco’s Western Anti-Atlas mountains, this rare and antique silver ring features a lovely ovoid carnelian stone in fine shape. Carnelian is said to be the stone of the ring worn by the prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and bestows divine favour and happiness on the wearer. Yellow and green molten glass often accompanies red gems in Amazigh jewellery, and the pattern of five circular motifs alludes to the Five Pillars of Islam. Delicate silver wire work and a curvilinear serpentine pattern surrounding the band were common in such pieces. This fine ring dates to the turn of the 19th Century and evinces many years of careful wear.
