The general name of these flasks in morocco is
“GUZA”, the name can be translated to “NUT” or more specifically “NUTMEG”, it derives from a medieval arabic name referring to any tropical nut including coconuts and came to be used for any nut with an outer shell! they existed in a wide variety of shapes and materials including enameled gold one but the most attractive ones were partly made from acorns or oak nuts embellshed with cishelled silver finials/caps and needles, there was also possible use of tropical nuts like corozo nuts. the general acceptation is that they were used as Khol flasks which was only very very very marginal. the original use is that of tobacco flasks, chewing or sniffing tobaccos. they were part of men accessories. a shift in smoking fashion mainly due to the introduction of cigaretts meant that these lovely tidbits were soon abandonned and their mysterious use naively attributed to a female khol applier. Across Morocco and elsewhere the best khol appliers are made from organic material (wood, acacia thorn, porcupine quill) for they have best ability to be impregnated by tkhol material and gently apply it to eyelash and eyelid Just a further detail, to be sure that the silver flask you have in front of you is meant for khol/perfume/ scent or any other female use, just check if it has a bottom part which enable it to stand still on a table, if not then it is something that is put in a pocket to carry around.
