Old Chaway Mapuche Silver Earrings
From the Central Valley region of present-day Chile, a rare and handsome pair of silver Upul earrings made by the indigenous Chaway Mapuche people. Worn by Mapuche women during rituals, festivities and weddings, these earrings are usually fit in upper-ear piercings or attached to smaller hoops in the lobes. These very old trapezoidal earrings measure 7 cm by 10 cm, and weigh 67.5 gm in total. Light signs of many years of wear and a warm patina.
